About

Transgender therapy in Colorado
Heather Crate, MSW, LCSW (they/them)

HI, I’M HEATHER!
I love to play and be goofy. I am also a very laid back person by nature. I often joke that if I could have any job in the world it would be to be a summer camp counselor, where I would get to play and sing camp songs all day outside.

I am passionate about supporting transgender and queer children, youth and young adults as you’re navigating identity development, relationships and all that life brings your way. I am also a member of the community and am passionate about providing affirming spaces for us to be our authentic selves. I approach therapy sessions with you positioned as the expert in your own life and view my role as a thought partner and someone to ask the questions you need. My therapeutic approach is an integrative approach, I draw from my training in a variety of approaches including Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to name a few. I approach therapy from an anti-oppressive, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed lens. I actively engage in ongoing learning and unlearning to better support clients navigating systems of racism, cissexism, heterosexism, ableism, neuroessentialism, adultism, and other forms of systemic oppression.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have been working in the field of gender and sexual orientation for over 15 years. I have worked directly with children and youth, in advocacy and training roles, and in program management in Colorado and New York. l am currently working on my PhD in social work. I have a Masters of Social Work from George Mason University and a Bachelors Degree in Sociology/Anthropology from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College. I am passionate about building a world that celebrates and honors each unique person and what they bring to it. In my practice I work to create an environment that celebrates ALL identities.

I understand how tough this journey can be and look forward to supporting you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.
