About

Transgender therapy in Colorado
Heather Crate, MSW, LCSW (they/them)

HI, I’M HEATHER!
I am passionate about supporting transgender and queer children, youth, and young adults as you navigate identity development, relationships, and all that life brings your way. As a member of the community myself, I’m deeply committed to creating affirming spaces where you can show up as your full, authentic self. My style is laid back and relational. I see you as the expert in your own life, while I show up as a thought partner, sounding board, and sometimes a cheerleader who isn’t afraid to ask meaningful questions that help you go deeper in understanding your experiences.

My therapeutic approach is integrative and flexible, drawing from Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, CBT, and DBT, among others. I practice from an anti-oppressive, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed lens, and I engage in ongoing learning and unlearning to better support clients navigating systems of racism, cissexism, heterosexism, ableism, neuroessentialism, adultism, and other forms of systemic oppression. I also believe in therapeutically appropriate self-disclosure as a way to build trust, connection, and authenticity in the therapy space.

I have a Masters of Social Work from George Mason University and a Bachelors Degree in Sociology/Anthropology from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College.
